The Marsh
Stanpit Marsh is a 65-hectare site on the north side of Christchurch harbour with an unusual combination of habitats including salt marsh with creeks and salt pans, reed beds, freshwater marsh, gravel estuarine banks and sandy scrub. The Marsh hosts a wide variety of plants, fungi, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and aquatic animals.

Friends of Stanpit Marsh
Friends of Stanpit Marsh is a volunteer group which has been raising funds to support the management of Stanpit Marsh since 1983, while providing entertaining and informative events from quizzes and coffee mornings to expert talks to both members and guests. We produce periodic bulletins containing the current status of the Marsh and its wildlife, news of FOSM events, and items of relevance about the environment.

All funds raised by the Friends help to support the Marsh, funding facilities such as benches where visitors can stop to enjoy the environment, contributing to major project such as the building of the Visitor Centre, and funding studies to monitor the diverse environment of the Marsh.
